I work with little kids every day, and I want to say something simple: when a child gets left on a bus, it’s almost always because people assumed everything was fine. Not because they don’t care — but because no one double-checked. Little kids can’t call out. They can’t say, “You forgot me.” That’s why the adults have to be extra alert, especially with the youngest ones. Make sure every child gets on. Make sure every child gets off. Every single time. It’s not extra work. It’s basic safety. A Staff Member Who Sees It Up Close Jewelry Tip Dear editor, Firstly, thank you for the wonderful Lost and Found column you run. It is a tremendous mitzvah that so many can fulfill because of this column. I want to express a thought that is on my mind for quite some time. While looking at the lost column, I noticed that many, or sometimes most of the losses listed were for jewelry. Maybe it’s time to realize that so much expensive jewelry bought under much financial pressure be substituted by cheaper pieces as so much jewelry is either misplaced, lost, unfortunately stolen in our own homes or eventually not worn and sold for less than its cost as styles and fashion keep on changing. Thank you again for providing this service, J. L. Drive Carefully and Follow the Laws of the Road - Follow the Torah! Last week on Wednesday, December 10th, my daughter and her friend were crossing the intersection at Old Nyack Turnpike and Saddle River Road, going south towards New Day. It was raining and already dark at 5 p.m. (they were wearing reflectors). She said a car suddenly came turning left into Old Nyack from Saddle River Road and nearly missed her and her friend by a few inches! Whoever was driving that car, don’t you know you must stop for pedestrians in the crosswalk? You nearly hit them! Even if you’re in a rush, you MUST stop for people crossing the road when you are turning in! You are obligated by both the Torah and state laws to allow pedestrians to cross whenever you are turning in! G. K.
