// 845.371.2222 TOPIC #192 – RAPID RIPENING You can place it near an apple or tomato and it should speed up the ripening process. TOPIC #192 – RAPID RIPENING Hi, my experience with ripening avocados is that if I buy an avocado that’s oval-shaped, it’ll be brown even before it’s ripe, but if I buy an avocado that’s pear-shaped and pointy, no matter how long I leave it on the counter, it’ll always stay green. Csay Topic #195 TOPIC #44 - ECZEMA AND SKIN INFECTIONS My daughter is suffering from something on her scalp, under the hair. It looks like white pieces are growing. The doctor said that it’s a fungal infection, and gave me a medicated shampoo. We tried taking it off with oil once and twice, and it keeps on growing back. We tried taking miracle clay, and now she’s trying to put baking soda on her head. I want to hear if somebody has an experience with it and if it went away. TOPIC #192 – RAPID RIPENING What worked for me is that I put my avocados, when they’re still hard and green, on the counter right next to the percolator where it’s really warm, and then within a day or two, it’s usually ready. TOPIC #192 – RAPID RIPENING I wanted to add that adding a little piece of bread in the brown paper bag might speed up the ripening of the avocado. TOPIC #192 – RAPID RIPENING I leave the avocados on a separate shelf to ripen. But if I want it to get ripened quicker, I just take off the seed on top of the avocado. When you leave it that way, it takes just a day or two to get ripe. It takes faster. PUBLIC AWARENESS - SHADCHANIM APPRECIATION I really agree that teachers need tips for appreciation in order to continue their avodas hakodesh, but what’s with the shadchanim? They don’t work under a payroll. They get phone calls at almost every hour of the day. They’re not employed. They don’t sit at a desk. They’re not sitting at work. They’re just answering phone calls and listening to the parents and trying and trying. As if by shadchanim, there’s not a day of yom tov or bein hazmanim and they don’t need a shidduch for their own child. People feel that because the shadchan did shidduchim already, they’re now mechiyev to work for other people. Everything they do is true gemilas chassadim, just like a hatzalah or chavairim call. Don’t they deserve to be tipped? And of course, when things become more serious or even moved forward already, like after dor yesharim, everything they do for you is free of charge. Sometimes they could even work a half a year and try shidduchim, like over 300 shidduchim and nothing doing. No payroll, and no payment. No one knows, only Hashem knows what we do and we really ask Him to repay us. But how about some appreciation to a shadchan? And when a shidduch finally happens, you shouldn’t pay the shadchan what you paid by your first child. Inquire about what the price is now. Teachers get raises almost yearly. Shadchanim should also get raises. Their grocery bills are also almost double of what it was, like everyone else’s. Sometimes I have people that just walk away from me without a thank you after beshows. I could have finished a shidduch and made some money, but it didn’t work out. The least you can do is think about what the shadchan did for you. Maybe tip her? Maybe there’s a reason why there are so few shadchanim? TOPIC #192 – RAPID RIPENING To ripen avocadoes, put it in a brown paper bag together with apples and close it. TOPIC #192 – RAPID RIPENING Most fruits ripen best in warm places, such as on top of the fridge or freezer or next to a percolator. Avocados would take approximately two days. You could see on the color of the peel if it’s green or closer to dark black, when it’s green, it’s not ripe yet. As the hours pass, it becomes darker and darker. When it’s completely ripe, it’s nearly black. Mangoes and kiwis would take about a week, also depending on how hard it was before. But when it’s on top of the freezer, you can check it every day. You can touch the peel and you see if it’s soft or not. Bananas can also be ripened this way; it takes about two days. Regarding putting an avocado in a brown paper bag, I heard this method with an apple. It has to be an apple and an avocado together in the brown paper bag. It doesn’t have to be in a dark place; it has to be a warm place. 157
